Frieze Masters

Frieze Masters, the annual spectacle of historic and modern art that accompanies Frieze London, returns to London next month with the number of Old Master dealers up on the last edition.

Exports of paintings and sculpture from the UK helped the country to reduce its trade deficit at the end of last year.

Frieze Masters returns to Regent’s Park, London, this autumn with more than 130 exhibitors showing a selection of art covering 6000 years.

The opening of this year’s Frieze Masters was marked by a number of sales. Among the fashionable crowd who queued at Regents Park into the early evening yesterday for the opening of the fifth edition of the event, were many who came prepared to buy.

London’s Frieze Week, an annual high point of Modern and Contemporary art fairs and auctions, will take place one week earlier than usual in 2016, as the organisers of Frieze fairs have moved their dates forward to avoid clashing with the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur.

Sir Norman Rosenthal, one of the art world’s best known historians and curators, has described the trade side of the business as “a huge mechanism for preserving knowledge and value”.

‘Frieze Masters’ has acquired further gravitas following its successful launch last year by signing up several new heavyweight exhibitors for the 2013 event from October 17-20 in London’s Regent’s Park.
