Rupert Maas

An unidentified but engaging portrait of a young boy that was bought by art dealer Rupert Maas at a regional auction last year has been restored and fully attributed to Harold Knight (1874-1961).

Among the lots catching bidders’ eyes in the last few months were a number of intriguing portraits that came up at sales in south-west England.

Separated for over a century, a trio of small panels by Sir Edward John Poynter (1836-1919) have been reunited thanks to a dealer, an auction and two Australian Victorian art collectors.

The Maas Gallery, well-known specialist in Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and Modern British pictures, is moving to larger premises in St James’s.
