Bermondsey Market
Bermondsey Market in London dates back to 1950 when the old Caledonian Market in Islington moved south of the river after the site was scheduled for redevelopment.
The current market in Bermondsey Square stands on one of the oldest parts of Southwark and takes place every Friday morning. Traders offer a range of antiques including silver, furniture, jewellery, decorative antiques, paintings, maps, fashion items and china.

Trading places: London's top hotspots for buying art and antiques
19 June 2019For close to three centuries buyers of art and antiques have been spoilt for choice in London. A city synonymous with archives, galleries, museums, conservators and curators, it continues to support long-standing streets of antiques dealers, centres and a plethora of regular fairs and markets. As this guide to the hotspots suggests, most of them are complementary rather than in competition, and all budgets are catered for.

24 May 2018Buyers of art and antiques are spoilt for choice in London. It’s a city with long-standing streets of antiques dealers and a plethora of fairs and markets, despite the challenges posed by rising rents and rates. Most are complementary rather than in competition with each other. Roland Arkell and Kate Quill report

Does Bermondsey need a relaunch?
30 November 2009DEALERS in South London have cautiously welcomed Southwark Council’s proposal to relaunch Bermondsey Market, but remain sceptical as to whether funds will be made available to make a significant difference.
Reduced prices for stalls at Bermondsey
09 November 2009IN a bid to boost pre-Christmas trade at Friday's Bermondsey Antiques Market, Southwark Council have waived the usual stand charge of £30 and only the £10 stall rental charge for a 9 x 3ft stall will apply. This offer applies for November 20 only.

Bermondsey gears up for its revamp
13 April 2005THE famous Bermondsey Square Antiques Market has traded in the square since 1948. This August, Southwark Council and developers Urban Catalyst will start work on the 18-month redevelopment of the square, during which it will be business as usual for the Friday antiques market. Or as near as possible given the immense upheaval for the traders.
Bermondsey downsizes ‘to look busier’
10 March 2003Bermondsey Market, a London institution since the 1950s, is to change its current format, downsizing from three to two separate trading areas next month. The move, part of a Southwark Council bid to revitalise the area, is in part a reaction to the decline in the size of the market.
