The Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference turntable designed by David Gammon was made famous by Stanley Kubrick’s 1971 film A Clockwork Orange. This example above is estimated at £800-1200 in the west London sale.

Launched in 1970, the Philips UFO record player designed by Patrice Dupont is another candidate for ‘most beautiful record player’. It came to the market shortly after the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar landing, adopting the look of a flying saucer. The example on offer here (shown below) is estimated at £300-400.
