He spent several weeks in Thorington Street, Suffolk, experimenting with a new style.

Several of the works resulting from that summer are offered by Modern and Contemporary art specialist Cobbold & Judd of Colchester in an exhibition running from October 21-November 4.

Of particular note is a series of willow paintings made by the River Box which reflect how he was updating his technique and style day by day. By this stage in his career, he had started experiencing eyesight problems. These troubles worsened in the 1980s and led to total loss in 2005. However, even after losing his vision he continued to paint.

Organised in collaboration with the Sargy Mann Estate, the exhibition is held at the Minories, Colchester, only a few miles from Thorington Street where Mann spent his pivotal summer.
