Réunion Des Modistes or Meeting of the Milliners by Leon Benigni (1892-1948) depicts four hats by fashionable designers of the day (L-R): Paulette, Blanche et Simone, Maud Roser and Le Monnier.
Benigni was a fashion illustrator and graphic designer who worked with various leaders of the fashion industry such as Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean Patou and Cristobel Balenciaga, as well as major fashion magazines.
His pictures are often light and even humorous, with the figures secondary to the clothes – such is the case in this image of four ‘gossiping’ hats.
