I would like to offer an explanation to Christopher Eimer of the purpose of his silver plaque by identifying each element of the symbolism that is displayed.

The eye or ‘All Seeing Eye’ represents God.

The broken wing represents the fall of Icarus.

The scales represent balance or evaluation.

In the left pan of the scales is a scroll which represents learning or enlightenment.

In the right pan of the scales is what looks like coins or shapes that represent worldly goods.

The right-hand pan is lower than the left and therefore the illustration via pictorial metaphor is a lesson in morals that a choice of worldly goods over enlightenment will lead to downfall.

I hope that this enables Christopher to sleep a little easier.
