Richard Payne-Withers, and his wife Samantha, will open Bridport Antiques by the end of the month after successful growth of The Alleyways Antiques Centre on the edge of town.

Payne-Withers traded from Alleyways for the past decade and took over the business from the previous owner six years ago. The site at St Michael's Trading Estate hosts a monthly vintage market and now 50 traders operate from the location.

Payne-Withers now believes there is room for another centre in the area. He said: “With many years of experience running The Alleyways I have long seen the potential for a large centre for antique sales in this area. We have rented a few of the spaces already but we are searching for more dealers to join us.”

The new premises, described as an antiques showroom, totals 3000 sq ft in the former Gundry and Amsafe net and rope-making premises at The Court in West Street, opposite Waitrose in the town.
