Mallams’ Modern Living Sale in Cheltenham on August 18 includes this Model 402 bent wood birch chair by Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), with original label to the underside.
Early works by the Finnish architect and designer of furniture, textiles and glassware were created during a time of rapid economic growth and industrialisation in Finland.
He received patents for innovation in various manufacturing processes, including the bent wood technique shown in this Model 402 chair.
Dating from c.1933, the 2ft 5in (73cm) high chair (pictured above) was made for Finmar, one of the major importers of Scandinavian furniture to the UK between 1934-65.

Found by metal detectorists near Scotch Corner, North Yorkshire, and registered with the Portable Antiquities Scheme, these bronze and enamel roundels come from an Anglo-Saxon hanging bowl dated to the 6th-8th century AD.

A Star Wars figure of Luke Skywalker in its original bubble packaging is included in Mitchells’ Vintage & Antique Toy sale in Cockermouth on August 12.
The Palitoy figure is the ‘12-back A version’ of the model released at the time of the first Star Wars movie in 1977.
It is offered with a very conservative estimate of just £50-80, but the levels of pre-sale bidding suggest the figure will sell for as much as £3000-5000.

The rarest Scottish provincial town marks, known only from spoons and ladles, are Stonehaven, Ellon and Keith. While a few pieces with Stonehaven and Ellon marks are known, Keith silver has rarely appeared at auction - the last example spoon was offered in the 1990s.
A fiddle pattern teaspoon comes for sale at Lyon & Turnbull’s Scottish Works of Art sale in Edinburgh on August 18. As with the two examples illustrated in Jackson’s Silver & Gold Marks of England Scotland and Ireland, it is marked JC, probably for John Cumming, a watch and clockmaker in Keith. The town name is built from five oddly shaped letter punches, perhaps made by Cumming himself.

The Oysterdate Monte Carlo series were the first chronographs produced by Tudor. A cyclops date magnifier, screw-down pushers and the distinctive dial with angled subsidiaries make them instantly recognisable.
