This large lithograph forming part of the Weather Series, a suite of prints created by David Hockney in 1973, sold for £14,000 at Lots Road.
The series was the second major suite made at the printmaking studio Gemini in California and was partly inspired by the representation of weather in Japanese prints.
Titled Snow without Colour, this example was signed, dated 1973 and numbered 19/38, and came with publisher’s blindstamps. Large at 3ft 8in x 3ft 1in (1.11m x 95cm), it was offered on January 26 at Chelsea saleroom Lots Road (22% buyer’s premium) where it doubled hopes to sell for £14,000.
Prices for such prints appear to have increased in the last few years. An example from the same edition sold for a premium-inclusive £9375 at Christie’s in March 2017.
