On December 14 in Swann Auction Galleries’ Illustration Art sale, the New York firm will be offering a front endpaper from the title page of his ABC (published by Random House in 1963), which has been personalised with an inscription and an original signed pen and ink and wash drawing of a llama-like beast titled A Great Gallumphing Galoot!

The recipient was a boy named William and the inscription, which is also signed, elucidates, explaining: I want to start by telling you how very sorry I am that it has taken so long to get your book back to you. I'm hoping to have made it up to you (somewhat) with the added time and care that went into it. Good luck + best wishes/Ted Geisel.

The image measures 5½ x 5in (14 x 13cm) on a 9 x 9½in (23 x 24cm) page and the estimate is $8000-12,000.
