I was also dismayed at the sentiments on young people in ATG’sround table on TV shows (ATGNo 2266). How could your debaters, mostly people aged 50-plus, understand what might attract young people to the industry?

No young people were included in your discussion, though we have young, enthusiastic members of the antiques trade, as shown by the growing membership of associations such as Antiques Young Guns (AYG). The London Christmas drinks organised by AYG attracted a wide range of bright young things from the industry – trading stories and sharing their passions. It is a cliché to say that the youth are the future, but it is true.

I am so proud to be an AYG member and can’t wait to see how my contemporaries grow and move our industry forward. For those who would like to join in, the next AYG gathering takes place in mid-February.
