Both are very fine copies and the copy of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, in the lighter blue cloth, can be determined as a first issue by the presence of grey floral endpapers, a blank street sign on the Strand Library vignette that centres the upper cover, and by the unfortunate misprint, "Miss Violent Hunter" in the final sentence of 'The Copper Beeches'. The pair sold for a low-estimate $8000 (£4350).

In November of this year, when Sotheby's New York offer Pt. II of the Maurice Neville collection, there will be more Conan Doyle to tempt buyers and $50,000-75,000 is expected for Sidney Paget's original drawing (below right) of Holmes and Moriarty locked in mortal combat at the edge of the Reichenbach Falls.
