Christopher, whose father was Lt. Colonel Sir William Rowley and who had several ancestors with illustrious naval careers, had decorated a number of famous homes including Inverary Castle, Locko Park and Kedleston Hall and his eye for detail and colour is, not surprisingly, reflected in his own home pictured here. The two-day, three-session sale, which will take place on the premises, will offer the contents of Wormington and will feature the usual house sale ingredients: furniture, silver,
textiles, carpets, ceramics, works of art, family portraits and other paintings.
Wormington: Rowley’s legacy for sale
On July 21 and 22, Sotheby’s will be holding a house contents sale at Wormington Manor near Broadway. This was the Worcestershire home of interior decorator, Christopher Rowley whose shop in Lower Sloane Street, Belgravia was a familiar meeting point for his large circle of friends and clients until his death in April this year.
