It emerged in May that the two floors of the building occupied by the Barbican, which has been a fixture in the old part of Plymouth since 1971, are up for redevelopment into luxury flats. Current owner Tony Craymer-Price, who bought the business and the freehold of the quayside warehouse in 1984, hopes to sell shortly but is confident that the ground will remain an emporium for antiques and collectables.

Clive Cooper, who has managed the centre for seven years, is planning to lease back the ground floor from the new owner and keep the Barbican Antiques Centre in business for another 30-odd years.
