It was designed by Charlotte Clark, the American seamstress who in early 1930 had made the first Mickey Mouse doll. She continued to produce hand-made dolls for Disney, some of which were given by Walt Disney himself as gifts to friends and family.
While this large-scale 16in (40cm) figure, made in velveteen with a blue corduroy cap and jacket and oilcloth pie eyes, had little in the way of provenance, it too might have been one of these gifts. Just above the tail features, it was neatly inscribed in ink, Greetings To Mrs McCormack, Walt Disney.
Offered with a guide of £300-500 on November 1, it took £1960.
