1705 silver crown, £17,000 at Baldwin’s.
Issued prior to the Acts of Union, it features the so-called first draped bust of the monarch and, to the reverse, four crowned cruciform shields bearing the emblems of the home nations.
The plumes indicate that the coin was made from silver sourced from Wales. This is a hard-to-find coin in good condition with this example encapsulated and graded as Mint State 61.
Estimated at £12,500-14,500 at Baldwin’s on July 5, it took £17,000 (plus 20% buyer’s premium).
