1740 Basel triple ducat, £26,900 at St James’s Auctions.
The coin, designed by Johann Jakob Handmann, was also issued in four and five ducat weights with all considered rarities.
This triple ducat certified and graded as Mint State 61 Prooflike carried a guide of £6000-8000 at St James’s Auctions on March 1 but sold at £26,900 (plus 20% buyer’s premium).
