Among the sales at Battersea’s Decorative Fair was this c.1840 Spanish walnut dining table, £12,500 at Nick Jones.
The event, running from January 23-28, generated high demand for antique furniture, mirrors and textiles.
In the first few days of the fair it was well attended by trade buyers from the UK and overseas with particular interest from US dealers. The event also remains popular with interior decorators working on new projects.
All dealers reported selling to new, as well as existing, customers.
Early sales
Among the early sales was a c.1840 Spanish walnut dining table with marble top (pictured above).
It sold from the stand of Nick Jones in the opening moments of the fair to a private client for their country house. The table was ticketed at £12,500.
A c.1720 Italian silk embroidery, sold for a five-figure sum by Vagabond at the Battersea Decorative Fair.
Vagabond reported a strong start to the fair with sales including a c.1720 Italian silk embroidery to a trade buyer for a five-figure sum, while Foster & Gane’s top sales included a rare Swedish Baroque pier mirror attributed to Burchard Precht (1651-1738). It was priced at £38,000 and went to a UK interior designer.

Among the interior-focused shoppers visiting the fair was Ralph Lauren Home which bought from many dealers including Mark Goodger, purchasing a smoking compendium in the form of an aeroplane priced at £6000.
