A selection of around 100 highlights will be available from September 16 when dealer Willa Latham of Gentle Rattle of China plans to release the initial catalogue.

The collection was amassed by Murray Pollinger (1932-2022), who represented Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake and Rosemary Sutcliff among others.

As well as releasing the collection online gradually, Latham plans to publicise the research that Pollinger and fellow collector Stephen Bressey conducted on the factory.

Alcock launched his Staffordshire factory in the 1820s and had a successful run until his death. Though popular in its day, comparatively little is known about the firm today.

Many of the pieces were left unmarked and the numbering system was byzantine. Over the years, the identity of many pieces have been lost or items miscatalogued.

Pollinger’s work on the factory included untangling the numbering system.

Latham said: “For collectors this will be very interesting. There are a lot of pieces misattributed everywhere and people are going to be scratching their heads looking at their collections thinking there are more pieces here by Alcock than I thought.”
