The shade is adorned with portraits of the band in their early 60s ‘Fab Four’ era along with the names of early hits including Twist & Shout, From Me to You, Money and She Loves You. It sold to an online bidder despite the need for restoration to the wire frame.
The lamp sold to an internet bidder at Staffordshire firm Cuttlestones (20% buyer’s premium).
Auctioneer Ben Gamble said it was the survival of the black lamp base with its gold guitar motif that excited collectors.
“Anything to do with the Beatles remains highly collectable - but it was actually the base of this lamp that is especially rare and drove up its value. These items were originally mass-produced for the teen market and would have been a relatively cheap and cheerful purchase back in the day.”
