It comes for sale from a private collection in Cambridge with an earlier provenance to the Ayrshire shipowner and art collector Leonard Gow, Queen Marie of Yugoslavia and latterly George Eumorfopoulos (1863-1939), first president of the Oriental Ceramics Society.
The figure is pictured and discussed in the third volume of RL Hobson’s 1929 catalogue of the Eumorfopoulos collection (see detail).
