The Pre-Daytona, was made without luminescence to the dial at a time when the Swiss maker deemed any radioactive material on a watch would deter buyers in Japan.

The 6238 was produced between 1962-68 with approximately 2000 to 2500 pieces manufactured (in all metals and dial variations). It was the predecessor of the reference 6239 Cosmograph Daytona model that has become one of the most sought after of all vintage tool watches.

It comes for sale at Noonans’ sale of Jewellery, Watches, Silver, and Objects of Vertu on November 28 and is being sold with its original receipt from the Asian retailer, service guarantee, spare link and presentation case.

It is expected to fetch £20,000-30,000.
