Thirty-plus years later the fair is still going strong and at the same venue with the next antiques and vintage fair running on Tuesday, December 12.

Caygill said: “It’s an amazing feat to continue monthly after so long at the same location in Hexham. It’s all going very well with 115 tables let each month and the fair is a bonus for the trade who pile through the door early in the morning.”

He also organises events in Gateshead and Durham. “We are very relieved that our Durham fair is up and running again with a new location, our third move in Durham since launching in 1981.

“This fair now takes place triannually at the Durham Rainton Arena and our first three fairs this year have been fully booked with exhibitors travelling from across the north of England and Scotland to take 150 tables.”

A wide selection of vintage on offer at one of the monthly vintage, flea and antiques fairs held at the Hexham Mart.

Staying with the town, the monthly Hexham Vintage, Flea and Antiques Fair runs in the Hexham Mart with the next on Saturday, November 18, followed by December 2.

“We’ve been running for two years now and are always busy with around 40 dealers each time mainly from the north-east/Scottish borders,” said organiser Andrew Gray.

“The stock is very varied with vintage and mid-century furniture through to lighting, vintage fashion and glass and ceramics plus vintage workshop tools.”
