For years his Christmas exhibition has been one of two sales a year where he showcases furniture and works of art. After this edition, his current lease ends and he will shut the doors.

Charles II oak and fruitwood chest of drawers, illustrated in British Antique Furniture Price Guide 2001 edition (where it was valued at £6000-9000), now offered for £3950 by Suffolk House Antiques.

He is going out with a bang, offering a huge array of early oak and country furniture, many from longstanding private collections.

Priced £2450 is this Charles II oak child’s wainscot armchair, which is illustrated in Oak Furniture The British Tradition by Victor Chinnery and was sold as part of the John Fardon Collection by Christie’s in 1996 with an estimate of £1800-2500.

And sales have started strong, with over 30 items snapped up by the time of writing. Some pieces, such as an Elizabethan free-standing oak aumbry or table cupboard in untouched condition, went an hour after the catalogue was posted online.
