They were displayed in his Paris residence, the Hôtel de Lannion.

The 1000 or so works range across antique furniture and works of art, Old Masters and Modern and Contemporary art as well as a library of books and personal souvenirs related to Marie-Caroline of Bourbon- Two Sicilies, the Duchesse de Berry (1798-1870).

The Modern art element of the sales features, among others, works by Jean Dubuffet, Pierre Soulages, François-Xavier Lalanne and Tony Cragg, Antony Gormley and Robert Combas as well as this 2ft 7in x 13½in (79 x 34.5cm) pastel on paper, Escalier from 2002, by Sam Szafran (1934-2019) which has an estimate of €40,000-60,000.
