Roseberys’ Design sale on November 15 features a consignment of five pieces of furniture by Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) from a private collection.
They are in varying states of repair but include some celebrated models. Estimated at £14,000-16,000 is this ebonised wood, brass, pewter and vellum Curule throne chair of asymmetric form, c.1900.
A similar example is pictured in Philippe Dejean’s book Carlo-Rembrandt-Ettore-Jean Bugatti (1982).
Purchased by the vendor in 2007, this chair was formerly in the Kingman Museum of Natural History in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Dame Elisabeth Frink’s Mirage from 1967, from the Estate of Dame Barbara Mary Quant, estimate £15,000-20,000 at Dawsons.
Dawsons of Maidenhead will include a collection of pieces from the Estate of Dame Barbara Mary Quant in the Fine Art & Antiques auction on November 30.
These were amassed with her husband, Alexander Plunket Greene. They set up the Bizarre shop on the Kings Road, Chelsea, which heralded the beginning of the swinging 60s and the birth of the mini-skirt, a Mary Quant idea and a revolution in the colourful 1960s fashion scene.
Featuring in the collection are two works by Quant’s friend, Dame Elisabeth Frink. Mirage from 1967, shown here, is estimated at £15,000-20,000, and a study of the artist’s dog (a watercolour and pencil drawing) at £3000-5000.

Tennants of Leyburn will offer two family collections of costume and textiles from Scottish country houses on November 17.
Fifty of the lots in the Costume, Accessories and Textiles Sale come from Cullaloe House in Fife. It is thought that much of the lace and fashion items dating from the late 19th and early 20th century belonged to the vendor’s great-grandmother Sybil Blundell-Hollinshead-Blundell, née Dudley Ward (c.1878-1950), with later pieces probably belonging to her daughter, Violet Blundell-Hollinshead- Blundell (1906-59).
The collection includes a selection of linen dating to the turn of the 20th century, much of which was likely to have been made by the family’s linen mill in nearby Dunfermline. James Mathewson & Son was one of 11 linen manufacturers in the town and earned a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria. The factory closed in 1934 following the Wall Street Crash and the collapse of the lucrative American market.

The 7ft 5in high x 2ft 2in wide x 3ft 8in deep (2.25m x 65cm x 1.12m) mobile sculpture is constructed from stainless steel, aluminium and sand.

Image from a collection of early Cornish shipwreck magic lantern slides on offer at Lay’s estimated at £8000-10,000.
A collection of early Cornish shipwreck magic lantern slides is available at Lay’s November 16 Antiques Sale in Penzance.
They were regularly used by Frank Strike to give lectures in Cornwall until he died in 1967. He had compiled the group for the previous 20 years. Strike was a keen local historian and an active and much respected member of the Coastguards and other images in the group reflect these interests.
He held the Coastguard long-service medal for 35 years as number one in the life-saving team, during which time he was responsible for aiming and firing the rocket that carried the rope to the shipwreck.
Strike’s collection was carefully preserved by his family.
Also among the shipwreck slides are a number of images of early divers exploring shipwreck sites and views of Porthleven.
The images (around 330 in total) are annotated, catalogued and boxed, and together with a magic lantern projector are estimated at £8000-10,000.

This abstract 18ct gold collar necklace by John Donald will be offered by Mallams of Oxford on November 15, with an estimate of £1500-3000. Donald, who died in September at the age of 94, was an icon of British jewellery, having participated in the 1961 International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery at Goldsmith’s Hall and enjoying patronage from the royal family, especially Princess Margaret.
The necklace bears hallmarks for 2004, the year Donald retired. An emerald and rock crystal flower ring and matching ear clips by him will also be offered in the sale.
The Jewellery, Watches and Silver auction on November 15-16 also features a number of Arts & Crafts jewels to include pieces attributed to Dorrie Nossiter and Sybil Dunlop.

The Festive & Fine Sale at Young’s in Farnham, Surrey, on November 25, includes this silver cigarette case by Cartier. Hallmarked for 1936, with interior inscription, it was gifted by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, to the vendor.

Oak dressing chest, c.1930-40, by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, estimate £4000-6000 at Elstob.
Several examples of furniture by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson are to be offered in Elstob Auctioneers’ Fine Art & Antiques Sale on November 8, including early pieces from the workshop in Kilburn, North Yorkshire.
Central to the collection is this oak dressing chest, c.1930-40, which is estimated at £4000-6000. It has two short drawers over two long drawers and is topped with a moulded mirror. Both the mirror and chest carry the signature mouse carvings.
Lachenal concertina in the 19th century, estimate £300-500 at Charterhouse.
Although perhaps sounding French, Lachenal was a British company that produced a range of fine concertinas in the 19th century.
An example was brought into the Charterhouse saleroom in Sherborne, Dorset, on a valuation day. It is now on offer in the two-day collectors’ auction on November 30-December 1, estimated at £300-500.
The concertina is housed in the original travelling case.
