Doyle’s (26/21/15% buyer’s premium) sale of Prints and Multiples on April 25 included five works by Katz, three of which realised new auction highs for the prints in question.

They were led at $25,000 (£20,160) by a 4ft x 3ft (1.2m x 91cm) screen print of Ada with Flowers from 1980, a portrait of his wife behind a large bunch of blooms.

Signed and numbered 23/65 in pencil and co-published by the artist and Simca Prints Artists Inc New York, it came from the Flower Family collection, win recent months this year, and had a provenance to the Harcus Krakow Gallery, Boston.

On May 6 in Dusseldorf a sale held by Dr Andreas Sturies (20% buyer’s premium) included a 2ft 2in x 3ft (66 x 92cm) screen print from 1990. Ada in Hat, signed and numbered 19 from an edition of 150 published by Gaultney-Klineman in New York, realised €17,000 (€15,045).
