Michael, who was one of the founders of the NAWCC (National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors), trained as a tool-and-die maker and owned a successful specialised tool-and-die company.

His interest in clocks began in 1937 when he purchased his first grandfather clock and his collection expanded to 400 clocks and 225 watches.

Many of the clocks and timekeepers in the auction are of American make.

Among them is this mahogany-cased marine chronometer made by John Bliss & Co of New York and fitted with a Roman numeral silvered dial and a stem wind.
