Among the highlights is the copy of the Declaration of Breda as reported in ATG No 2589. Billed as “the most important royal document ever to come to auction”, the manuscript that restored the monarchy after Oliver Cromwell’s death is estimated at £400,000-600,000.

The Declaration of Breda outlined the terms on which the exiled king could return to Britain, laying the foundations for the shape of the future monarchy.

Another significant document at the same sale is a letter from Katherine Parr announcing her marriage to Henry VIII in 1543 (pictured above). Addressed to her brother William, it is estimated at £15,000-20,000. Henry died in 1547.
