Drum major’s uniform from the era of Queen Elizabeth II, €3900 (£3420) at Czerny.
Made of burgundy velvet, it features a black velvet collar and sleeves almost completely covered with gold bands, and is about 3ft (93cm) in height.
The uniform dating from the second half of the 20th century emerged not in a UK auction but at Czerny (25% buyer’s premium inc tax) in Sarzana, Italy. Guided at €800-1200 on March 30, it took €3900 (£3420).
