Hugo and I were exact contemporaries and among the first of the contributing experts to the Antiques Roadshow.
I have, as no doubt other contemporaries have, very happy memories of Hugo and his ability to entertain.
Once when we had a Roadshow close to his home we were all invited back for a very liquid evening.
Sometimes he would get grumpy when a dear old lady sat down before him with a bag full of non-descript items and our director, Robin, had to gently remind him we were a live programme!
He was a true connoisseur and one of the great porcelain experts of his day.
