Antique Fan Supply Co of Hickory, North Carolina, has a vast selection of ceiling fans, desk fans and fan parts as well as motors and electrical items.
To the uninitiated, one historic fan can look the same as the next, but thanks to the extensive and lively cataloguing the site offers, the differences and attractions of each example are made clear.
For example, this Emerson Trojan Model 5610 12in fan with six blades comes from a collection. According to the collector, this fan was acquired with another (a 5410 Trojan) in a junk shop in Nyack, New York. Both had their original finish, which was “wasn’t so good”. All cast-iron components have since been painted by a professional automotive restorer. The catalogue adds: “On start up and spin down there is a slight vibration of the blades but at running speeds it disappears.”
It is offered for $3200.
