Among the highlights in its Asian Art Signature Auction on March 21 is Utagawa Hiroshige’s (1797-1858) colourful woodblock print The Plum Garden at Kameido.
The work famously inspired Vincent van Gogh who was an avid collector of Japanese ukiyo-e prints and reproduced this composition in his 1887 oil on canvas Flowering Plum Orchard, now in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Other highlights include a Japanese cloisonné vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki (1845-1927), estimated at $7000-10,000 and a Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Mahasiddha, guided at $60,000-80,000.
