Rolling out this weekend on Sunday, June 11, is the antique and vintage event which returns to Stonor Park, the ancestral home for eight centuries of the Stonor family in the Chiltern Hills near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.
This very a popular fair, set on a 250-acre corner, if that’s the word, of the estate, averaging 200 sellers and 2500-plus visitors who pay £15 each for an early bird buyer ticket for 9am entry with £5 being the standard ticket charge from 10am.
Another attraction at Stonor Park is the chapel – separate ticket – and Polish artist Jozef Granas’ series of artworks, Stations of the Cross, created in the Second World War.
Wolds watch
The 18th century Sledmere House, near Driffield in the Yorkshire Wolds, is still in the ownership of the Sykes family whose ancestral wealth was built on the flourishing Baltic trade in pig iron in the early 18th century.
Every year a car boot is held in Sledmere Park with this year’s taking place on Sunday, July 16. These 100-boot events support Macmillan Cancer Support and other charities.
Public admission to the boot from 9am costs £3.50. Application forms for traders can be downloaded via the website below.
The biggie
The big daddy of stately car boots is the 40-year-old mammoth boot held on the Wilton House estate, near Salisbury, every August Bank Holiday Monday, so August 28 this year.
After a two-year gap, last year’s event broke all records with a phenomenal 4500 buyers and more than 300 traders. That’s a lot of legwork but it’s bound to be worth it in the five hours the boot is open.
This is the most successful event which the Wilton Rotary Club has ever run and the crowds will be gathering on the day for the 9am opening (£3 admission per person) with £10 being charged for earlier entry.
