It is part of a collection of preparatory paintings and drawings by the Polish-British artist offered by the Cardiff gallery in its show of posters which runs until February 4. Mary Yapp, the original owner of Albany Gallery, first saw Herman’s work at the Glynn Vivian gallery in Swansea and went to visit the artist in London. He agreed to exhibit his work at Albany and over the years Yapp visited his studio regularly.

Works in the collection were brought from Herman’s studio in the 1980s but some date to earlier periods. Although they have been at the gallery since this time, they still belong to the Herman estate.

Some pictures are offered signed and are priced according to the condition of the work.

Jasper Johns, Whitney Museum of American Art, offset lithograph 1978 – £1450 from Albany Gallery.

The other part of the show comprises more than 40 framed vintage posters by artists such as Chagall, Hockney, Matisse and Picasso.
