Music journalist Miranda Ward (1946-2019) wrote for Record Mirror and New Musical Express before a stint on the newly launched Radio 1 with her own spot, Miranda’s Meanders, on the Scene and Heard weekly show, presented by Johnny Moran.
But by 1968 she had left journalism and became a maths teacher, encouraged by news that Art Garfunkel had trained for the same vocation.
Ward, who never married, was survived by her brother, Richard, and her collection has been consigned for auction at Harper Field in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.
Among the stand-out lots in the January 10-11 sale is a large paper and acrylic on hardboard Apple Boutique mural designed by The Fool (an art and design collective led by Marijke Koger and Simon Posthuma).
Harper Field has confirmation that it was painted in the autumn of 1967 by Koger for the changing rooms in the children’s clothing department of the Apple Boutique. It is estimated at £4000-8000.
There is also a globe of a Belisha Beacon given to Ward by Paul McCartney, estimated at £1000-3000, and a drawing on a napkin of Ward and Jimi Hendrix by the latter alongside other lots of ephemera, posters and vinyl.
