This year marks 150 years since the founding of Martin Brothers pottery in London and 100 years since the death of founder and eldest brother Robert Wallace Martin.

Fantasy and the Grotesque: a Curated exhibition of Robert Wallace Martin and Martin Brothers ran from March 27-April 1 and a talk on the topic was given by Dr Christopher Jordan at the start of the show.

George Kingham and decorative arts specialists Mark Oliver said the event was the first of its size since Richard Dennis’ exhibition in London in 1978.

More than 60 guests visited for the first day – including Robert Martin from Cornwall, the grandson of Walter Fraser Martin (1857-1912).

Auction to follow

Kinghams held the show in a freshly built exhibition room within its premises and produced a show catalogue for the occasion.

Although it was not a selling event, Kinghams will also hold a Martinware auction on May 5 called Martin Brothers Auction: One Hundred Years On.
