Among them was the copy of Richard Adam’s Watership Down featured here. This was not, however, an example of the 1972 first edition, but one of 250 copies of a special edition issued by Paradine in 1976.
Bound in full crushed green morocco and featuring gilt decorations of characters from the book on the spine and front cover, it is signed by Adams.
It also includes a slightly later but specially commissioned watercolour drawing by the book’s original illustrator, John Lawrence, that is shown above.
It sold at £1800 in the February 23-24 auction.
