For most of his career he dealt from his various shops in London at St Christopher’s Place, Wigmore Street, and latterly in Westbourne Grove, dealing in English and Continental furniture, and porcelain. He was also a long-time exhibitor at Chelsea Antiques Fair.

Artistically inclined - poetry and painting being two of his hobbies - he studied stage design at Willesden Art School. Of youthful appearance belying his age and of cheerful demeanour, he was always good company: I experienced this just a few weeks before his demise when we spent a happy afternoon together with family members. He planned for us to meet soon, but sadly, fate decided otherwise.

He married Jill Pettitt in 1979 and had two children, Natasha and Alex, and two grandchildren, Alexander and Ayla.

His cremation will take place at Mortlake Crematorium, Richmond, TW9 4EN on Monday, October 3, at 2pm.
