John was just 15 when he joined Keys Auctioneers of Norfolk in 1955, less than two years after the company was launched.
Born in a village close to Aylsham [where Keys is based], John was still a schoolboy when he first worked with Keys, helping Geoffrey Key at Norwich cattle market.
He then became an office junior in the accounts department before working his way to senior partner, the position from where he retired in 2005 after 50 years with the company.
