As an artist and illustrator it has appeared in numerous publications from Saturday Evening Post and National Geographic to Cosmopolitan and in the form of film posters.
One memorable example of the latter will appear in Heritage Auctions’ Illustration Art sale on October 7. It is McGinnis’ original artwork for the famous poster for Thunderball, one of the first Bond movies starring Sean Connery. It was the first of a number of artworks that McGinnis produced for 007 films including one for Live and Let Die which marked the introduction of Roger Moore to the role.
The 12 x 18½in (30 x 47cm) Thunderball gouache on board, which made a previous auction appearance at Sotheby’s New York in 1991, comes from the collection of Darren Shan who acquired it in 2003.
