With a full set of maker’s stamps and monograms to the base, it was estimated at £1000-2000 on October 6 but took £15,000.
The perforated grid pattern was common in Wiener Werkstätte metalwork based on idea that the simple square could become a decorative pattern.
This model and others in the same vein were made from c.1906-16 in a variety of materials: zinc-plated steel, silver-plate and (as here) in sold silver as part of the Gitterwerk (lattice-work) collection.
