The description in the article appears to elaborate further on the incorrect cataloguing of the reel – which is actually an Allcocks Britannia centrepin reel in 3in size. It is made of Ebonite and alloy with brass fittings.

The price achieved was a strong but realistic price for this fairly scarce reel from the early 20th century.

But the reel has nothing to do with Hardy, is not a prototype, is not made from Bakelite and is stamped Patent (no No 3). It is identifiable from many easily available reference books on vintage fishing reels.
