Indian cricketer Bhupinder Singh (1891-1938) was captain of the Indian cricket team which toured England in 1911 and the 1932 Test tour, playing 27 first-class cricket matches between 1915-37. He was Maharaja of Patiala (1900-38) and these miniatures were passed down by descent before selling at Catherine Southon on September 14.

This portrait of a young boy by artist John Smart (1741-1811) is signed 1761, so would have been painted early in his career before he travelled to India where he had important commissions. In gilt gesso frames (with some damage), the pair are offered with an estimate of £1500-2500 at Tennants of Leyburn, North Yorkshire, on November 12.

Haslem joined the Derby porcelain factory as an apprentice painter at the age of 14 and moved to London in 1835 as a pupil of ET Parris. He was later patronised by Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Sussex and other members of the royal family.

Lt Kilncke died around two years after this picture was completed, but his regiment would serve on the Coalition side during the 1815 campaign. The picture is offered by Armoury St James for £1850.

German artist Friedrich Johann Gottlieb Lieder (1780-1859). was appointed court painter to Friedrich Wilhelm III in 1816 and became a member of the Vienna Academy eight years later. This portrait miniature on ivory of a gentleman by is an early work, dated 1808, before his appointment as court painter. It is estimated at £400-800 at Roseberys in West Norwood, south London, on November 16 and is registered with APHA.
This miniature of Fedinand VII, King of Spain from the collection of Siegfried Claßen is estimated at €600- 1000 at Nagel on November 16-17.
A group of miniatures is coming to Stuttgart auction house Nagel this month from collector Siegfried Claßen. Miniatures fascinated the Cologne collector from his childhood and he acquired many of the pieces from international galleries and auction houses such as Lempertz, Albrecht Neuhaus and Seegert. According to Nagel, the collection is “probably one of the most important that has been offered on the German auction market for a long time”.
Among the lots is this miniature of Fedinand VII, King of Spain. The c.1800 gouache on ivory is estimated at €600- 1000 on November 16-17.

Among the highlights in its stock at the moment is this wistful depiction of a Miss Athill by George Hargreaves (1797-1870), who specialised in portrait miniatures. It is priced at £1300.
