Alto Stile is one of the newcomers at the next specialist Midcentury Modern Show, a ‘go-to’ event for lovers of the classic designs that define the style.

Oliver Brookes set up his company specialising in Mid-century furniture eight years ago. It is a period that particularly interests him: “Some truly original ideas came from the 1940s to the ‘70s and that’s why I started the company.”

Brookes says that sales have been good, though a bit up and down with Brexit and the new export rules but “we are getting more sales from the US”.

Included in the furniture he will be taking to the fair is a 1950s Danish teak and oak cabinet at £1850.

Lower down the price scale at the show is this vintage hand-carved African wooden box, styled as a tortoise, priced at £95 from Mid-century dealer Sauce.

The show itself takes place on Sunday, November 20, in the light- filled Christison Hall at Dulwich College in south-east London.

Fair organiser Tanya Pateman, of Midcentury Modern, said: “We have a mix of 50 Mid-century dealers including newcomers Push and Pull and Oxhay Antiques plus 25 contemporary designers.”
