A few days later, before she could collect her lace from the post office, Phil received an e-mail from this customer saying that she had to leave Kyiv, due to Putin’s horrendous war, and that she was now living safely in Sweden.

Phil sent her (free of charge) a similar piece of lace to her new address.

As a Berlin survivor of the Second World War, I shall never forget the generosity of the American and British troops who supplied us with food and shelter when we had lost everything.

We are all so very lucky to live in peace in multi-lingual, multinational and multi-religious London.

The least antiques dealers can do now is to offer to all Ukrainians who had to flee from their homeland, and are struggling to find a new life and job, a helping hand.
