Theo von Brockhusen's Wirtshausgarten Baumgartenbrück (Garden of an Inn in Baumgartenbrück) to be offered at Lehr in Berlin on April 30 with an estimate of €28,000.

There he became a member of the Berliner Secession and soon gained a reputation as an accomplished painter of Impressionist landscapes. During a visit to Paris in 1909, he immersed himself in the works of Vincent van Gogh which profoundly influenced his artistic development.
Brockhusen transposed the colours and style of van Gogh’s Provencal scenes to the countryside around Berlin where he found many of his motifs, in particular around the Schwielowsee, one of the numerous lakes to the south-west of Berlin.
A case in point is Wirtshausgarten Baumgartenbrück (Garden of an Inn in Baumgartenbrück), painted in c.1911, eight years before Brockhusen’s untimely death of a respiratory disease at the age of 37.
The 2ft 5in x 3ft 4in (74cm x 1m) canvas is coming up for sale at Lehr in Berlin on April 30 with an estimate of €28,000. The painting was inherited by the artist’s daughter and later came into the hands of a local collector, who has consigned it for sale.
