Monmouthshire dealer John Read Smith, sitting on an oak dresser base minutes before he sold it at last September’s Enys House Antiques & Decorative Fair, where he will be standing at this spring’s staging.
Word has spread so well about the Enys House Antiques & Decorative Fair – with “the help of ATG of course,” says co-organiser Ralph Retallack – that it is in the happy position of becoming a biannual event.
With its 30 acres of gardens and woodlands the 19th century Enys House at Penryn, near Falmouth in Cornwall, is a fine backdrop to the fair, which local antiques shop owner Retallack and his partner Nicola Fuller launched in 2019.
The spring event on Saturday and Sunday, April 2-3, involves 25 dealers stalling out in marquees in the gardens (which open to the public from the weekend of the fair) as well as in the ground floor of the charismatic uninhabited house.
Regulars and newcomers
An impressive line-up of returning dealers includes Bill Carter of The Brocanteur in Derbyshire, Julia Brisbane of Courtyard Antiques in Presteigne – who also runs Antiques in Tents in Herefordshire – and Jules Criss of Exe Brocante in Exmouth.
Retallack said: “Over half the dealers are ‘out of county’ which is great and we have newcomers too this spring including Tania and Rupert Wellings of R&T Fine Art and Liz and Chris Charlwood of Samplers, Treen and Everything Between.”
