Book dealer Steve Nutt.
1 Have you noticed any collecting trends recently?
There has been a lot of growth in UK customers including lots of younger buyers getting interested in art, books and particularly decorative art – so it’s a positive trend.
2 What is one great discovery you have made?
One of the things that got me interested in the trade was buying an atlas at an antiques market – I did a geography degree, so I’ve always been interested in maps. It was an atlas of the world published around 1820 with hand-drawn maps and I actually ended up selling it. It was one of my first good deals.
3 Do you collect anything personally?
Bibles from the 16th and 17th century. We sell them too, but I have my personal collection.
4 Who do you admire in the trade?
My dad inspired my brother and me. He got me interested in the trade as a youngster as I used to come to fairs when I was seven or eight years old. Also, my brother, who I work with a lot at the moment.
5 Real ale or espresso martini?
Both – it’d be ale to start and an espresso martini later on in the night. That’s exactly what I would do!
